BUCKLE

Topology optimization for less weight and more durabilty, 2019

During my fifth semester product design I analysed specific everyday products regarding usability, durability and the potential for realistic improvements. In case of buckles, I developed a topology optimized buckle for less weight and more durabilty. The process of 3d-printing allowed me rapid prototyping and a fast workflow.
Millipede is a structural analysis and optimization component for grasshopper. It does very fast linear elastic analysis of frame and shell elements in 2d and 3d plate elements and also for in plane forces of 3d volumetric elements. All geometries can be optimized using built in topology optimization methods and the results could be extracted and visualized in a variety of ways.
